Based on a drawing of Rifaud, reproduced as pl. 188, no. 1, in Rifaud 1836. •Valid as Gymnarchus niloticus Cuvier 1829 -- (Gosse 1984:123 [ref. 6169], Bigorne in Lévêque et al. 1990:185 [ref. 21589], Poll & Gosse 1995:97 [ref. 24781], Dankwa et al. 1999:17 [ref. 28023], Seegers et al. 2003:29 [ref. 28087], Neumann et al. 2016:303 [ref. 35036], Fermon et al. 2022:127 [ref. 39448] questionable). Current status: Valid as Gymnarchus niloticus Cuvier 1829. Gymnarchidae. Distribution: Africa, Nile River. Habitat: freshwater.
