Brevort. •Valid as Aulichthys japonicus Brevoort 1862 -- (Ida in Masuda et al. 1984:83 [ref. 6441], Nakabo 2000:512 [ref. 25086], Shimizu 2001:23 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:512 [ref. 26001], Choi et al. 2003:231, 552 [ref. 26218], Kuiter 2009:323 [ref. 30404], Kim et al. 2020:85 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:35 [ref. 37637]). Current status: Valid as Aulichthys japonicus Brevoort 1862. Hypoptychidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: eastern China to Korea and Japan. Habitat: marine.

septipinnis, Ammodytes Pallas [P. S.] 1814:227 [Zoographia Rosso-Asiatica v. 3; ref. 3351] American ocean [? Kamchatka]. Family placement follows Fowler (MS). The species septipinnis is the type species of Rhynchias. Hypoptychidae. Habitat: marine.
