Based on Chaetodon rhombeus Bloch & Schneider 1801, preoccupied in Psettus by Scomber rhombeus Forsskal 1775. Available from footnote as, "Psett. Sebae, N., Chaetodon rhombeus, Bl. Schn., Seb. III, xxvi, 21." See also Cuvier & Valenciennes 1831:241, pl. 189 [ref. 4881]. We treat as a new species based on Bloch & Schneider and on Seba.
