Holotype (unique): USNM 37350. •Valid as Steindachneria argentea Goode & Bean 1896 -- (Arai in Uyeno et al. 1983:208 [ref. 14275], Robins & Ray 1986:94 [ref. 23100], Inada in Cohen et al. 1990:345 [ref. 18936], Cervigón 1991:164 [ref. 24472], Boschung 1992:74 [ref. 23239], Cervigón 1992:359 [ref. 23827], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:801 [ref. 23897], Iwamoto & Cohen 2003:993 [ref. 27011], Nelson et al. 2004:93 [ref. 27807], Hartel et al. 2008:327 [ref. 29890], Melo et al. 2010:40 [ref. 30775], Page et al. 2013:93 [ref. 32708], Lins Oliveira et al. 2015:105 [ref. 37485], Robertson et al. 2020:158 [ref. 38098]). Current status: Valid as Steindachneria argentea Goode & Bean 1896. Steindachneriidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: New England (U.S.A.) south to Bahia (Brazil), including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
