chasei, Lepidosteus Wailes [B. L. C.] 1854:333, 337 [Report on the agriculture and geology of Mississippi; ref. 24087] Mississippi, U.S.A. Holotype (unique): Coll. Rev. Benjamin Chase, Natchez (probably lost). Original genus should have been Lepisosteus; spelled Chasei on p. 333 and Chaseii on p. 337. Undescribed dark phase of the alligator gar, or the species now called L. productus Cope [= Lepisosteus oculatus Winchell 1864] (Cook 1959:60 [ref. 24088]). •Probably a synonym of [Atractosteus] Lepisosteus spatula Lacepède 1803 -- (W.
