saurus, Osmerus Risso [A.] 1810:325 [Ichthyologie de Nice; ref. 3755] Syntypes: MNHN B-0850 (1). Type catalog: Bertin 1945:375 [ref. 21554]. Appeared first as name only, not available (from Malta) in Forsskål 1775:xix [ref. 1351]. Apparently can date to Risso as above; named Saurus lacerta by Risso in 1827. Aulopidae. Habitat: marine.
