Syntypes: (many) USNM 25908 (2). Current status: Valid as Citharichthys arctifrons Goode 1880. Cyclopsettidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: eastern U.S.A. and Gulf of Mexico. Habitat: marine.

macrops, Neoetropus Hildebrand [S. F.] & Schroeder [W. C.] 1928:174, Fig. 89 [Bulletin of the Bureau of Fisheries v. 43 (1927, pt 1); ref. 2163] Off Smiths Point, somewhat below mouth of Potomac River, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia, U.S.A., Fish Hawk, depth 25 fathoms. Holotype (unique): USNM 87653. Preoccupied by Citharichthys macrops Dresel 1885 when both species are classified in genus Citharichthys. The type locality information is questioned by Hoshino & Munroe 2004:588 [ref. 27908]. •Apparently a valid species of Citharichthys or Etropus, but no current status reference is available -- (S. A. Evseenko, pers. comm., 5/03). •Synonym of Citharichthys arctifrons Goode 1880 -- (Hoshino & Munroe 2004:583 [ref. 27908]). 2°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Citharichthys arctifrons Goode 1880. Cyclopsettidae. Habitat: marine.
