Distribution: Western Atlantic: Honduras and Panama south to northern Argentina, including western-central and southern Caribbean Sea. Habitat: brackish, marine.

Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1879:38, Pl. 8 [ref. 4228]. •Doubtful as a synonym of Cynoscion virescens (Cuvier 1830) -- (Chao 2002:10 [ref. 26250]). •Synonym of Cynoscion virescens (Cuvier 1830) -- (Chao 1978:36 [ref. 6983], Parenti 2020:16 [ref. 37439]). Current status: Synonym of Cynoscion virescens (Cuvier 1830). Sciaenidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
