Also appeared in Lichtenstein (editor) in 1844, ref. 17531, but Lichtenstein treats as synonym of "Gymnothorax echidna Bl. Schn. p. 526", so not available; from Huahina [= Huahine, Society Islands], Bola Bola [= Bora Bora, Society Islands] and Tonga-tabu [= Tongatapu, Tonga]. Appeared in Richardson as above as a name in synonymy, although Richardson credited the name to Forster; we regard Echidna variegata as unavailable, never having been published in an available way.
