Holotype: USNM 37332 (100-mm specimen). Paratypes: USNM 295726 [ex 37332] (1). Type established in first sentence of description; also established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 385, p. 3312 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446] if figured specimen is identifiable. •Valid as Etropus rimosus Goode & Bean 1885 -- (Gutherz 1967:29 [ref. 23862], Leslie & Stewart 1986:145 [ref. 5948], Robins & Ray 1986:292 [ref. 23100], Retzer 1990:139 [ref. 39996], Boschung 1992:175 [ref. 23239], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:341 [ref. 25013], Munroe 2003:1918 [ref. 27118], Nelson et al. 2004:180 [ref. 27807], van der Heiden & Plascencia González 2005:470 [ref. 28311], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:852 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:185 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Etropus rimosus Goode & Bean 1885. Cyclopsettidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: including Gulf of Mexico. Habitat: marine.
