Plus non-type material. •Valid as Heterocharax leptogrammus Toledo-Piza 2000 -- (Lucena & Menezes in Reis et al. 2003:203 [ref. 27061], Mattox et al. 2014:355 [ref. 33387]). Current status: Valid as Heterocharax leptogrammus Toledo-Piza 2000. Acestrorhynchidae: Heterocharacinae. Distribution: Negro River and upper portion of Orinoco River basin: Brazil and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater. macrolepis, Heterocharax Eigenmann [C. H.] 1912:406, Pl. 61 (fig. 2) [Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum v. 5 (no. 1); ref. 1227] Rockstone, Guyana. Distribution: South America: Essequibo and Demarara River basins; Amazon River basin and Orinoco River basin (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela).
