Holotype (unique): NMW (apparently lost). Name credited to Heuglin 1852 [ref. 22009] by Marcusen, but species was figured on Pl. 60 (fig. 1) as Morymyrus Spec. nova., but not named by Heuglin. •Valid as Hippopotamyrus pictus (Marcusen 1864) -- (Gosse 1984:76 [ref. 6169], Bigorne in Lévêque et al. 1990:151 [ref. 21589], Lévèque et al. 1991:138 [ref. 31367], Dankwa et al. 1999:15 [ref. 28023], Kramer & Swartz 2010:2230 [ref. 30915], Kramer & van der Bank 2011:2692 [ref. 31546], Kramer et al. 2012:2233 [ref. 32160]).
