Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:132 [ref. 13621], Smith 1994:31 [ref. 21917]. •Valid as Letharchus aliculatus McCosker 1974 -- (McCosker 1977:64 [ref. 6836], McCosker et al. 1989:314 [ref. 13288], Leiby in Smith 1989:885 [ref. 13285], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:35 [ref. 27192] with genus as Letarchus, Carvalho-Filho 2023:59 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Valid as Letharchus aliculatus McCosker 1974. Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Bermuda and North Carolina (U.S.A.) south to Espíritu Santo (Brazil). Habitat: marine.

Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 61, p. 3244 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446]; also designated by McCosker et al.1989:317 [ref. 13288].
