Syntypes: (4) USNM 46503 (2). •Synonym of Micropogonias altipinnis (Günther 1864) -- (Sánchez-Pinedo et al. 2017:136 [ref. 35709]). •Valid as Micropogonias megalops (Gilbert 1890) -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:163 [ref. 22193], Chao in Fischer et al. 1995:1480 [ref. 22830], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:368 [ref. 24550], Fuller et al. 1999:408 [ref. 25838], Nelson et al. 2004:148 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:128 [ref. 37547], Minckley & Marsh 2009:302 [ref. 31114], Parenti 2020:31 [ref. 37439]). Current status: Valid as Micropogonias megalops (Gilbert 1890). Sciaenidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern tip of Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Honduras, including Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: brackish, marine.
