Holotype (unique): USNM 29670. The name omostigma apparently is a noun in apposition and should remain omostigma. •Valid as Otophidium omostigmum (Jordan & Gilbert 1882) -- (Arai in Uyeno et al. 1983:228 [ref. 14275], Robins & Ray 1986:100 [ref. 23100], Boschung 1992:77 [ref. 23239], Cervigón 1992:376 [ref. 23827], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:733 [ref. 23897]). •Valid as Otophidium omostigma (Jordan & Gilbert 1882) -- (Robins in Nielsen et al. 1999:43 [ref. 24448], Nielsen & Robins 2003:968 [ref. 27008], Nelson et al. 2004:92 [ref. 27807], Garrido-Linares & Acero P. 2006:293 [ref. 28946], Page et al. 2013:95 [ref. 32708]).
