Holotype: USNM 203304. Paratypes: LACM 30175-1 and 2 (2); MCZ 46202 (2); SIO 15-454 (36) (ex UCLA W49-55). •Valid as Peprilus ovatus Horn 1970 -- (Haedrich & Schneider in Fischer et al. 1995:1624 [ref. 22830], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:142 [ref. 24555], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:466 [ref. 24550], Fuller et al. 1999:487 [ref. 25838], Nelson et al. 2004:178 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:183 [ref. 32708], Marceniuk et al. 2016:316 [ref. 34358]). Current status: Valid as Peprilus ovatus Horn 1970. Stromateidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Mexico. Habitat: marine.
