Paralectotypes: MNHN 0000-1812 (2). Lectotype selected by Rosa & Rosa 1997:852 [ref. 25850]. See account of Mugil chilensis. •Valid as Pinguipes chilensis (Molina 1782) -- (Pequeño 1989:64 [ref. 14125] dating to Molina 1782). •Valid as Pinguipes chilensis Valenciennes 1833 -- (Rosa & Rosa 1987:1049 [ref. 6066], Rosa & Rosa 1998:852 [ref. 25850]). Current status: Valid as Pinguipes chilensis Valenciennes 1833. Pinguipedidae. Distribution: Southeastern Pacific. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): BMNH 1917.7.14.51. •Valid as Pinguipes fasciatus Jenyns 1840 -- (Nakamura in Nakamura et al. 1986:266 [ref. 14235]). •Synonym of Pinguipes brasilianus Cuvier 1829 -- (Rosa & Rosa 1998:850 [ref. 25850], Carvalho-Filho 2023:220 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Synonym of Pinguipes brasilianus Cuvier 1829. Pinguipedidae. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): IO 308 (apparently lost). Type catalog: Menezes 1974:216 [ref. 20795]. Rosa & Rosa 1997:850 [ref. 25850] mention seeing the type, but they do not list it in their materials examined. •Synonym of Pinguipes brasilianus Cuvier 1829 -- (Rosa & Rosa 1998:850 [ref. 25850]). Current status: Synonym of Pinguipes brasilianus Cuvier 1829. Pinguipedidae. Habitat: marine.
