Holotype: USNM 230001 (formerly USA 05362). Paratypes: AMNH, SIO. Plus non-type material. •Valid as Chriolepis prolata Hastings & Findley 2015. •Valid as Pinnichthys prolata (Hastings & Findley 2015) -- (Tornabene et al. 2016:13 [ref. 34435], Fuentes et al. 2023:176 [ref. 40497]). Current status: Valid as Pinnichthys prolata (Hastings & Findley 2015). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: northeastern Gulf of Mexico and off South Carolina, U.S.A. Habitat: marine.
