Iintroduced into Western Atlantic waters off Florida, U.S.A. IUCN (2019): Least concern. Habitat: brackish, marine.

If considered an independent description, secondarily preoccupied in Platax by Chaetodon guttulatus Cuvier 1829 and subjectively invalid. •Synonym of Platax orbicularis (Forsskål 1775) -- (Dor 1984:168 [ref. 29757], Kishimoto et al. 1988:26 [ref. 13446], Fricke 1999:528 [ref. 24106]). 2°Homonym. albicauda, Chaetodon Gronow [L. T.] in Gray 1854:73 [Catalogue of fish collected and described by Laurence Theodore Gronow; ref. 1911] India/ Ambon. No types known. Based in part on Chaetodon quadratus nigrescens; pinnis dorsi ac ani in medio longum productis (Seba Thes tom 3, p. 67; pl. 25, fig. 15), which was identified by Cuvier as Chaetodon vespertilio Bloch. •Synonym of Platax orbicularis (Forsskål 1775) -- (Kottelat 2013:437 [ref. 32989] with question).
