Appeared as Pomacanthus quinquecinctus in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1831:210 [ref. 4881]. Bauchot 1963:148 [ref. 20718] listed 2 syntypes (MNHN A-0172 (1) St. Dominique, A-3837 (1) Martinique) in reference to C. & V. 1831. •Synonym of Pomacanthus arcuatus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Allen 1980:251 [ref. 22764] as cinquecinctus dated 1831).
