Paratypes: CAS-SU 68632 [ex CAS-SU 6308] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:145 [ref. 12291]. Original genus should have been Sphoeroides. •Valid as Sphoeroides greeleyi Gilbert 1900 -- (Cervigón 1992:449 [ref. 23827], Cervigón 1996:123 [ref. 24489], Aguilera 1998:53 [ref. 24221], Camargo & Isaac 2001:146 [ref. 27639], Shipp 2003:1998 [ref. 27120], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:110 [ref. 27192], Smith et al. 2003:71 [ref. 27621], Smith-Vaniz & Jelks 2014:88 [ref. 33341], Costa et al. 2017:46 [ref. 35684], Spier et al. 2018:19 [ref. 36103], Ribeiro et al. 2019:9 [ref. 36717], Rotundo et al. in Marceniuk et al. 2021:714 [ref. 38945], Carvalho-Filho 2023:284 [ref. 40480], Hoff et al. 2023:8 [ref. 40463], Hunt et al. 2023:8 [ref. 40687]). Current status: Valid as Sphoeroides greeleyi Gilbert 1900. Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Mexico south to Santa Catarina (Brazil), including southern Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Habitat: brackish, marine.
