steindachneri, Tilapia Boulenger [G. A.] 1913:482 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 8) v. 12 (no. 71); ref. 14949] Dongwenna Swamp and Que River, Angola. Syntypes: (several) BMNH 1907.6.29.176-179 (4) Dongwenna, 1907.6.29.141-145 (5) Que R. The larger specimen that was figured by Boulenger 1915 appears to be a specimen of Paratilapia mellandi (Boulenger 1905) (I. Schraml, pers. comm. 25 July 04). This specimen was named the type by Boulenger.... but this did not establish a lectotype. According to Greenwood 1984:190 [ref. 5311], the other type specimens may represent Tilapia buysi Penrith 1970, a younger name. The figured specimen would make the best lectotype, and steindachneri would then be a synonym of mellandi. •Synonym of Haplochromis buysi Penrith 1970 -- (van Oijen et al. 1991:113 [ref. 20956]). •Synonym of Thoracochromis buysi (Penrith 1970). Current status: Synonym of Thoracochromis buysi (Penrith 1970). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Habitat: freshwater.

wingatii, Paratilapia Boulenger [G. A.] 1902:264 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 7) v. 10 (no. 57) (art. 38); ref. 14850] Bar-el-Jebel, Gondokoro, White Nile River, Sudan. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1907.12.2.3118. •Valid as Haplochromis wingatii (Boulenger 1902) -- (Greenwood 1971:344 [ref. 7614], van Oijen et al. 1991:182 [ref. 20956]). •Valid as Thoracochromis wingatii (Boulenger 1902) -- (Lévèque et al. 1991:145 [ref. 31367]).
