A neotype was designated as SAM 16749 by Mochizuki 1979 (see Yamanoue & Matsuura 2003:290 [ref. 27216] who disagreed that syntypes were available; with 20 original stations representing type specimens, the neotype designation is almost certainly premature). •Valid as Neoscombrops annectens Gilchrist 1922 -- (Mochizuki & Sano 1984:337 [ref. 5188], Heemstra 1986:562 [ref. 5660]). •Synonym of Neoscombrops cynodon (Regan 1921) -- (Yamanoue & Matsuura 2003:288 [ref. 27216], Heemstra 2022:161 [ref. 39747]). •Synonym of Verilus cynodon (Regan 1921) -- (Yamanoue 2016:2386 [ref. 34736]).
