Zoological Record and some authors spell as coerulescens. •Synonym of Gnathopogon elongatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1846), but a valid subspecies caerulescens (Sauvage 1883) -- (Kuroda 1953:275 [ref. 39545], Okada 1961:427 [ref. 6363]). •Valid as Gnathopogon caerulescens (Sauvage 1883) -- (Bănărescu & Nalbant 1967:348 [ref. 20623], Sawada in Masuda et al. 1984:56 [ref. 6441], Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:297 [ref. 25598], Naseka 1996:153 [ref. 22943], Watanabe 1998:263 [ref. 23491], Nakabo 2000:268 [ref. 25086], Matsuura et al. 2000:81 [ref. 26000], Nakabo 2002:268 [ref. 26001]). Current status: Valid as Gnathopogon caerulescens (Sauvage 1883). Gobionidae. Distribution: East Asia: Japan. Habitat: freshwater.
