edwardsii, Squalus Schinz [H. R.] 1822:214 [Das Thierreich v. 2; ref. 3926] Millers Point, False Bay, Western Cape, South Africa, 34°14'S, 18°28.6'E. Neotype: SAM 36079. Original spelling of species epithet was edwartsii; this considered an incorrect original spelling (Opinion 2056). Authorship previously attributed to Voigt 1832:504 [ref. 4948] by authors with original combination of Scyllium edwardsii. Authorship now attributed to Schinz 1822 (Opinion 2056). Also see van Oijen 2001:294 [ref. 26400] for petition on authorship as Schinz 1822. Neotype designated by Human 2007:7 [ref. 29330]. Name spelled edwardii by Smith 1838:85 [ref. 4034]. •Valid as Haploblepharus edwardsii (Schinz 1822) -- (Compagno 1984:332 [ref. 6846], Bass 1986:91 [ref. 5635], Gubanov & Timoxin 1989:222 [ref. 36138] as Haploblephorus edwardsii, Compagno 1999:480 [ref. 25589], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:66 [ref. 28072], Human & Compagno 2006:41 [ref. 28823], Human 2007:7 [ref. 29330], Weigmann 2016:40 [ref. 34211], Almeida & Biscoito 2019:71 [ref. 37302], Soares & Carvalho 2020:379 [ref. 37593], Ebert et al. 2021:48 [ref. 38234], Human & Ebert 2022:481 [ref. 39666]). Current status: Valid as Haploblepharus edwardsii (Schinz 1822). Pentanchidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape and Eastern Cape (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
