Smith specimens: BMNH 1845.7.3.149 (1), 1845.7.3.159 (1). •Valid as Triakis megalopterus (Smith 1839) [perhaps megaloptera is correct] -- (Compagno 1984:430 [ref. 6846], Bass et al. 1986:86 [ref. 5638], Gubanov & Timoxin 1989:222 [ref. 36138], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:77 [ref. 25472], Compagno 1999:482 [ref. 25589], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:65 [ref. 28072], Naylor et al. 2012:39 [ref. 32267] see remarks, Weigmann 2016:50 [ref. 34211], Compagno 2016:1283 [ref. 34544], Fricke et al. 2018:11 [ref. 35805] as melanopterus, Almeida & Biscoito 2019:75 [ref. 37302], Ebert et al. 2021:58 [ref. 38234], James & Ebert 2022:504 [ref. 39663], Leeney 2024:59 [ref. 40985]). Current status: Valid as Triakis megalopterus (Smith 1839). Triakidae: Triakinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Angola south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then north to southern KwaZulu-Natal, east to Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
