B.] 1923:9, Pl. 21 (fig. 2) [Report Fisheries and Marine Biological Survey, Union of South Africa Rep. 3 (art. 5); ref. 522] KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean, Pickle station 116, depth 298 fathoms. Syntypes: (several) BMNH 1935.7.14.1 (1). Raja parcomaculata of Smith is a valid species from off southern Africa but needs a new name -- (Compagno & Ebert 2007:141, 143 [ref. 30471]). •Valid as Cruriraja parcomaculata (von Bonde & Swart 1923) -- (Hulley 1986:117 [ref. 5672], Compagno et al. 1991:92 [ref. 21083], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:91 [ref. 25472], Stehmann 1995:103 [ref. 22055], McEachran & Dunn 1998:285 [ref. 23312], Compagno 1999:493 [ref. 25589], Compagno & Ebert 2007:143 [ref. 30471] with restricted locality, Aschliman et al. 2010:370 [ref. 30970], Weigmann 2016:127 [ref. 34211], Last et al. 2016:29 [ref. 34941], Weigmann et al. 2016:480 [ref. 35006], Vinu et al. 2017:598 [ref. 36470], Ebert et al. 2021:89 [ref. 38234], Aschliman & Ebert 2022:596 [ref. 39668]). Current status: Valid as Cruriraja parcomaculata (von Bonde & Swart 1923). Gurgesiellidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Mozambique. Habitat: marine.
