Lectotype listed in Séret & McEachran 1987:26 [ref. 9312] on verbal information from Notarbartolo-di-Sciara; it is uncertain if this established the lectotype -- see Compagno et al. 2005:81 [ref. 29145]. Subsequent workers perhaps established the lectotype. Distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East and South Africa, Persian Gulf and Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, south to northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
