Holotype: USNM 70249. Paratypes: USNM 163227 (7). •Valid as Apogon atrogaster (Smith & Radcliffe 1912) -- (Fraser & Lachner 1984:633 [ref. 8229], Paxton et al. 1989:545 [ref. 12442], Allen 1999:2605 [ref. 24812], Allen et al. 2006:1083 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus atrogaster (Smith & Radcliffe 1912) -- (Fraser 2012:81 [ref. 32177], Larson et al. 2013:112 [ref. 32988], Mabuchi et al. 2014:199 [ref. 33426], Yoshida et al. 2018:237 [ref. 36265], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:99 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus atrogaster (Smith & Radcliffe 1912). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Philippines and northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
