Holotype: ANSP 39309. Paratypes: ANSP 39310 (1), 39311 (1, c&s). Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:54 [ref. 13621]. •Valid as Gnathocharax steindachneri Fowler 1913 -- (Taphorn 1992:191 [ref. 23654], Chang & Ortega 1995:2 [ref. 24302], Lasso et al. 2001:95 [ref. 25928], Lucena & Menezes in Reis et al. 2003:203 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:109 [ref. 35745], Mattox et al. 2014:355 [ref. 33387], Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:46 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:83 [ref. 35773], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:15 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Gnathocharax steindachneri Fowler 1913. Acestrorhynchidae: Heterocharacinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins (Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
