Holotype (unique): BMNH 1867.11.28.313. •Valid as Muraenichthys macrostomus Bleeker 1864 -- (McCosker 1970:508 [ref. 2931], McCosker 1977:59 [ref. 6836], Castle & McCosker 1999:121 [ref. 24075], Smith & McCosker 1999:1667 [ref. 24715]). •Valid as Skythrenchelys macrostoma (Bleeker 1864) -- (McCosker 2022:132 [ref. 39686]). •Valid as Skythrenchelys macrostomus (Bleeker 1864) -- (Hibino et al. 2013:[1] [ref. 32505], McCosker 2014:339 [ref. 33288], Hibino et al. 2015:47 [ref. 34119], Golani & Fricke 2018:29 [ref. 36273]). Current status: Valid as Skythrenchelys macrostomus (Bleeker 1864). Ophichthidae: Myrophinae. Distribution: Red Sea; western Pacific: Maluku (Indonesia) and Philippines east to Samoa. Habitat: marine.
