Holotype: USNM 92347. Paratypes: USNM 93294 (1, c&s, in pieces). Type catalog: Smith 1994:9 [ref. 21917]. •Valid as Macrocephenchelys brachialis Fowler 1934 -- (Castle 1990:125 [ref. 15487], Smith 1999:1686 [ref. 24661], Ho et al. 2015:148 [ref. 34130], Lin et al. 2018:188 [ref. 36045], Kodeeswaran et al. 2023:5 [ref. 40191]). Current status: Valid as Macrocephenchelys brachialis Fowler 1934. Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: Indo-Pacific: east coast of Madagascar, Makassar Strait (between Borneo and Sulawesi), Malaysia, Taiwan and Vanuatu. Habitat: marine.
