J.] 2001:150, Fig. 1 (lower) [Copeia 2001 (no. 1); ref. 25127] Lake Afdera, 80 meters below sea level, southwestern part of lake where one of the hot springs joins the lake, about 13°10'N, 40°50'E, Afar Region, Ethiopia. Holotype: AMNH 223755. Paratypes: AMNH 229122 (1, c&s). •Valid as Lebias stiassnyae Getahun & Lazara 2001 -- (Lazara 2001:189 [ref. 25711]). •Valid as Aphanius stiassnyae (Getahun & Lazara 2001) -- (Freyhof et al. 2017:561 [ref. 35649], Esmaeili et al. 2018:8 [ref. 36738], Kärst et al. 2020:113 [ref. 38165]). •Valid as Aphaniops stiassnyae (Getahun & Lazara 2001) -- (Esmaeili et al. 2020:5 [ref. 37446], Freyhof & Yoğurtçuoğlu 2020:428 [ref. 37656], Zarei et al. 2022:[6] 856 [ref. 40528]). Current status: Valid as Aphaniops stiassnyae (Getahun & Lazara 2001). Aphaniidae. Distribution: East Africa: Lake Afdera (Ethiopia). Habitat: freshwater.
