Species as melanopterus in caption to Fig. 14 (regarded as in error), elsewhere (3 times) as megalopterus. •Valid as Megalamphodus megalopterus Eigenmann 1915 -- (Britski et al. 1999:44 [ref. 24147], Lasso et al. 2001:96 [ref. 25928]). •Valid as Hyphessobrycon megalopterus (Eigenmann 1915) -- (Weitzman & Palmer 1997:231 [ref. 22743] with comment on locality, Lima & Gerhard 2001:112 [ref. 25355], Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:138 [ref. 27061], Malabarba et al. 2012:57 [ref. 31810], Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], Ohara et al. 2017:10 [ref. 35494], Pastana et al. 2017:13 [ref. 35596]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon megalopterus (Eigenmann 1915). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Upper Paraguay and Guaporé River basins: Bolivia and Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.

Holotype (unique): CAS 98917 [ex IU 17348]. •Valid as Megalamphodus rogoaguae Pearson 1924 -- (Géry et al. 1991:61 [ref. 21021]). •Synonym of Hyphessobrycon megalopterus (Eigenmann 1915) -- (Weitzman & Palmer 1997:231 [ref. 22743], Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:138 [ref. 27061], Sarmiento et al. 2014:47 [ref. 35004]). Current status: Synonym of Hyphessobrycon megalopterus (Eigenmann 1915). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Habitat: freshwater.
