Syntypes: (23) BMNH 1866.5.2.207 (1) Java; ?NMV 45902 (1); RMNH 928 (16), 4974 (1). Original subgenus as Capoëta. Original cites Cypr. Tab. XXXIV, fig. 5, which was published in 1864 as Cypr. Pl. 36 (fig. 1). Unjustifiably emended to liacanthus by Günther 1868. •Synonym of Puntius brevis (Bleeker 1849) but possibly valid -- (Rainboth 1996:102 [ref. 22772], Kottelat 2001:74 [ref. 25780], Kottelat 2013:148 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Puntius brevis (Bleeker 1849). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Habitat: freshwater.
