S.] 1942:106 [Stanford Ichthyological Bulletin v. 2 (no. 4); ref. 3121] Drying swamp, 10 or 12 miles north of Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, about 22°45'S, 42°00'W. Holotype: CAS-SU 36516. Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:53 [ref. 12291]. •Valid as Cynolebias whitei Myers 1942 -- (Costa 1995:43 [ref. 22097]). •Valid as Simpsonichthys whitei (Myers 1942) -- (Costa 1996:130 [ref. 25271], Fuller et al. 1999:293 [ref. 25838]). •Valid as Nematolebias whitei (Myers 1942) -- (Costa 1998:75 [ref. 23792], Lazara 2001:213 [ref. 25711], Costa 2002:45 [ref. 26064], Costa in Reis et al. 2003:532 [ref. 27061], Costa 2006:15 [ref. 28620], Costa et al. 2014:226 [ref. 33239], Loureiro et al. 2018:11 [ref. 36240] as whtei). Current status: Valid as Nematolebias whitei (Myers 1942). Cynolebiidae: Cynolebiinae. Distribution: Laguna de Arauama basin, Das Ostras River basin, and coastal plain adjacent to mouth of São João River, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
