LABORATORY WORK EXPERIENCE

Curatorial Assistant. September, 1999 to April, 2000

• Curated invertebrate specimens into the collection of the Natural History Museum. Prepared specimens for loans. Maintained the collection database.

• Prepared chemical solutions for the biosciences laboratories. Maintained material safety data sheets (MSDS). Classified, labeled and prepared hazardous waste for disposal.

MAJOR PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Coordinated and supervised teams of seventy people in the development of environmental management plans including an ISO 14000 management plan for the largest electric utility in Western Australia.
• Designed, wrote and implemented the first waste segregation system for a top-rated nuclear facility in the US. The power plant saved the substantial costs of low-level radioactive waste disposal.
• Developed, implemented and supervised the employee radiation monitoring program (dosimetry) at a dual 1100 megawatt nuclear power plant. Supervised a staff of twenty employees during start-up, operation and maintenance/refueling outages.
• Co-authored, implemented and participated for thirteen years in the Emergency Response Plan for San Luis Obispo County and Pacific Gas & Electric's Diablo Canyon power plant.

INDUSTRY WORK EXPERIENCE

• Managed the occupational health, safety and radiation aspects of the western region's polymer chemistry laboratory and the Vallecitos Nuclear Center.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company, San Francisco, California. January1982-December 1994
Most recent position held: Acting Director, Environmental Compliance Support, Nuclear Power Operations

• Directed the activities of a staff of eight engineers overseeing the environmental compliance programs of two electrical generating power stations, including a dual unit nuclear facility.
• Managed environmental programs including marine effluent discharge monitoring and permit compliance.
• Member of the corporate scientific scuba diving team for monitoring power plant marine discharges.

• Monitored and measured environmental compliance with regulations in public facilities, schools, drinking water systems, and the food service industry.
• Liaison with public officials and the general public, and between the community and industry.
