Common marine life is identified in full color, along with species that you should avoid.

The author, a former head of the Kansas Audubon Council, tells the stories of 6 birds that were driven to extinction, who tried to save them, who tried to kill them, and more. In telling the stories he brings to life birds that we will never see again, vividly painting images of their lives and habitats. Birds detailed in the book include the Carolina Parakeet, Passenger Pigeon, Heath Hen, Great Auk, Labrador Duck, and, a bird that has been making a great deal of news recently because people are still hopeful that they still exist, the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.

The selections in this anthology cover more than 100 years of California nature. The book is divided in regions, with sections on hills and valley, deserts, the coast, and more. A brief biographical sketch is given for each author at the beginning of the selections, and the authors included are as diverse as John Steinbeck, Susan Zwinger, Jack Kerouac, Joan Didion, and Mark Twain.

This curriculum guide introduces the concept, tells you how to set up your own worm bin, and provides lessons and objectives for you to use in your classroom.
