One of the extras provided is maps showing the range of each species, along with information on weight, wingspan, and breeding specifics. An index is also included.

The author, a professor of physics and mathematics at Columbia University in New York City, writes of the quest in physics of the unified field theory, a theory that unites the science of the large, general relativity, to the science of the small, quantum mechanics. A lot of hopes are pinned on superstring theory, and Greene deftly spins of tale of the scientific story behind the quest for string theory and its current state. Metaphor and analogy are used to describe the scientific for the non-scientist.
Notes are provided for each chapter. A glossary of scientific terms is included, as well as references and further reading, and an index.

The author spent time in the Amazonian rain forest and got to know the activists and others who live their lives and work in the forests. The book is an amazing account of her time, research, and personal experiences.

This volume concentrates on the natural history, habitat, conservation, and human effects on the sea otter, Enhyrdra lutris. It is the only otter of the 13 modern otter species that can go its whole life without ever touching land. Stunning color photographs highlight the pages as the reader is informed about the life of the otter. Special attention is paid to human impact on both habitat and conservation efforts.

Bernard DeVoto, 1897-1955, was a columnist, conservationist, and a Pulitzer Prize winning historian. This volume brings together ten of his essays on Western conservation issues along with a previously unpublished work entitled Western Paradox.
Notes, a bibliography, and an extensive index are included.

This volume is based on essays that initially appeared as a journal's special issue before the sixth World Wilderness Council. Nepal, Borneo, South Africa, the US, Kenya, and other countries are represented in the contributions, and ideas on the conservation policies of both industrial and developing nations are considered.

Exploring Sea Floor Hot springs on the Juan de Fuca Ridge. Corvallis, OR: Sea Grant Communications, Oregon State University, c1988.

Scientists use echolocation to create detailed maps of the ocean floor. When the maps are completed, some researchers use them to look for thermal vents. 250 miles offshore in the Pacific Ocean, researchers have been exploring hot springs using submersibles that fit a researcher or two and lot of cameras and equipment. Temperatures of the vents, biodiversity, new and different species, and systems are just some of the areas being studied and examined. This 10 minute video takes you below the water line to the vents themselves, and talks to scientists about their research.

This five minute video quickly explores the issues surrounding endangered salmon and what is being done about it. Community response, challenges being faced, interviews with a fisherman, a biologist, a landowner, and others are included to provide a variety of perspectives.
