The California condor is the largest flying land bird in North America, and it used to range across the continent. By 1987, however, there were less than 30 of these birds left in the wild, and they were captured and taken to the Los Angeles Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park to participate in a captive breeding program. Since 1987, desperate efforts have been made to breed condors and return them to the wild. This book provides information on the natural history of these birds, as well as chronicling the efforts to save them.
