The Conservation Library in Denver was founded in 1960 for the prupose of storing documents related to the environment and conservation. The author traces the history of this library, as well as the culture of environmentalism that has shaped and caused changes over the years.

The Society for Conservation Biology met in 2000 to reach consensus on the current state of the field of conservation biology and the direction the field should take in the future. This volume emerged from that meeting, and contains twleve individually authored articles.
Each article contains references and there is an index for the volume as a whole.

Do the beliefs of western expansion and manifest destiny still effect the American West today? Written for a general audience, this book describes how laws, policies, and thoughts set out in the nineteenth century are continuing to shape environmental laws today. The author considers this not only shortsighted, but detrimental to the environment and requiring significant change to mediate between unchecked growth and complete preservation.
Using legal history and modern examples, the author proves his points with respect to land use and resource allocation. An index and notes are included.

This very readable and informative book covers the history of trash in American culture. The author traces from the 1800s to today, from the books written for women on saving everything, from saving fat for candles and soap to cutting off pant legs and turning them around to hide wear, to disposable products that are all the rage today.
The book includes notes by page and an index.

The World According to Pimm: A Scientist Audits the Earth / Stuart L. Pimm. New York: McGraw-Hill, 2001.

The author, a professor of conservation biology at the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation at Columbia University, has written a book that clearly and concisely measures what the Earth produces with what humans take away. And, like any number-cruncher, he projects this information into the future in the hopes that people will be inpsired to save the environment. The author never moralizes, but he does make it clear that actions have consequences, and the quantifiable evidence that he presents makes a compelling argument.
Maps, notes, and an index are included.
