This fantastic site provides a searchable database of over 8000 plants and dozens of habitats. The search parameters allow you to limit your searches in a variety of ways, including, among others, county, elevation, and rarity.

California Native Plant Society

Dedicated to providing information about California native plants, this site contains information on conservation, education, legislations, and photographs. One great feature is a wildflowers discussion board where people talk about great sites for wildflower viewing.

California Wildflowers

The California Academy of Sciences has a large collection of wildflower specimens. To date, more than 125 species have been added to this database where photographs are accessible by color, location, common and Latin names, and family.

Over 20,000 images of California plants from the California Native Plant Society and the California Academy of Sciences have been put into a searchable database as part of the Manzanita and Digital Library Projects. The images link to data from CalFlora that provides distribution maps and other information.

This site allows you to access distribution maps by entering the scientific name for the flower or browsing the family names. While no photographs are included, the maps are very valuable.
