Dean Kinter

Dean Kinter was born in 1909 in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Dayton's Steele High School in 1924, and came to California in 1927. Kinter was a Mechanical Engineer and Inspector of the Golden Gate Bridge and was later employed by John A. Roebling's Sons Company, the major contractor for the bridge cable and suspenders, to photograph and document the daily work on the construction of the bridge.

Dean Kinter died in 1963. Some of his photographs were displayed at various shows including one at the San Francisco Emporium during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. In 1988, Kinter's brother, Charles Kinter, donated more than 250 pictures taken by Kinter of the construction of the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge to the California Academy of Sciences' Library and Anthropology Department.
