Aerial view of the Academy after the 1934 completion of Simson African Hall. The buildings were not connected to each other at this point, but had three separate entrances. The three marine mammal pools are clearly visible in the main courtyard in front of the Steinhart Aquarium. Note also the roof of the shed housing the blue whale skeleton which is visible in the courtyard of North American Hall, the U-shaped building.
