#N18912 - Unknown photographer, no date.

From 1917 until approximately 1982, the courtyard of North American Hall displayed a 75-foot blue whale skeleton housed in an open-sided wooden shed. The whale, a Balaenoptera musculus pribilofensis, was captured by a whaling vessel in 1908 off the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The Academy acquired it in 1915.
