California Wild: Natural Sciences for Thinking Animals, the science and natural history magazine published by the California Academy of Sciences, features the Golden State's extraordinary biological and geographical diversity, while serving as a naturalist's guide to the state by offering practical advice on where to go, what to see, and what to do in California. The magazine's editorial content regularly goes beyond California's state borders, but always covers the wonders and delights of the natural world from both a scientific and Californian perspective. Our commitments to accuracy, scholarship, and discovery are paramount, but as threats to the natural world have intensified, the magazine's focus has adjusted to encompass the causes and ramifications of environmental degradation and the rapid decline in Earth's diversity.
Pacific Discovery goes California Wild
After half-a-century as Pacific Discovery, in October 1997 the California Academy of Sciences changed the name of its award-winning natural history magazine to California Wild: Natural Sciences for Thinking Animals, a name that better reflects the publication's content and thrust.
