cirrhostomus, Mugil Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:121, Pl. 32 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Pacific. No types known. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Species epithet misspelled cirrhosthomus by Cuvier 1831:171 [ref. 30398]. •Synonym of Crenimugil crenilabis (Forsskål 1775) -- (Thomson 1997:509 [ref. 23428] with a holotype as MNHN A.3624, Harrison & Senou 1999:2083 [ref. 24780], Hoese & Bray 2006:677 [ref. 29000], Fricke et al. 2019:75 [ref. 36673], Kwun & Myoung 2019:1948 [ref. 36732]). •Possibly valid as Moolgarda cirrhostoma (Forster 1801) --(Bogorodsky et al. 2024:22 [ref. 41171]). Current status: Uncertain as Moolgarda cirrhostoma (Forster 1801). Mugilidae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: South Africa, Mozambique, Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, Coral Sea, Queensland, Australia, Korea, Mariana Islands, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and Marquesas Islands. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
