Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Hippocampus Rafinesque 1810 which predates Hippocampus Perry by one month according to R. Petit (pers. comm. 9/19/2003). Published a second time in Perry 1810 in text to Pl. 18; said by Perry 1810 that it is not the same as Syngnathus.
