Description Papier mâché figurines of two sumo wrestlers, each with his body painted a flesh color and sporting black hair tied in a knot at the back of his head; Each figure is dressed in a black paper breechclout with fringes on the front and tied in the back; Each figure has his right arm upraised and his left pointing down, so when they are face to face, they interlock; Japanese writing appears on the back of each figure; These figurines were originally sold as souvenirs of the Osaka sumo matches.

Description Miniature model of a torii gate, which marks the entrance of nearly all Shinto shrines and represents the transition from the profane to the sacred; Assembled from several pieces of wood, this model consists of two rows of pillars (2 short ones and a taller center one) with crossbars linking the pillars in each row; Shorter pillars are topped with square caps; Larger central pillars are joined by a heavy lintel with upturned ends; Pillars are all painted orange, while the caps on the smaller pillars and the upper portion of the lintel are painted brown; Ridge line of lintel is painted black; Pair of wooden plaques suspended from center of lintel bear several Japanese characters, possibly identify the location of this particular gate.

Description Toy top assembled from several pieces that collectively form a mouse; Base is a flat round disc painted predominantly yellow with a red band around its side and concentric blue and red bands on one face; Mid-section (mouse’s body) is bullet shaped with the concave interior painted with concentric blue, yellow, and red bands and a narrow diameter bamboo rod extending up through the center and out the top, and a tapered bamboo peg (painted brown) extending diagonally through a hole in the side to represent the mouse’s tail; Exterior of mid-section is painted brown on the back and white on the front, with the mouse’s forelegs shown holding a small gray jar and a rectangular bag; Mouse’s head is teardrop-shaped and painted brown with pair of black eyes outlined in white, the tapered point positioned to represent the face; Small drilled hole on base of head fits onto bamboo rod extending up from “body”; Short bamboo rod extends out from back of head; Yellow dome-shaped disc serves as mouse’s hat and is painted on interior and exterior with several narrow concentric red bands; Tapered wooden stem in center of hat’s interior fits into small hole drilled in mouse’s head.
