Description Dandu-style woman's festival jacket with side tie; Front, back and lower sleeves are of plain cotton dyed with indigo and pig’s blood; Upper sleeves and yoke, also of cotton, are resist-dyed with geometric and floral patterns in blue, yellow, and red on white background; Collar, shoulders, and right edge of jacket are decorated with elaborately embroidered panels; According to collector, Gail Rossi, the spiral motifs represent whorls of hair found on sacrificial water buffalo, relating to Miao ancestor worship; They may also represent special herbal fern known to cure illness; Jacket is worn with ankle-length pleated skirt and apron, and tall silver headdress in form of water buffalo horns.
